Special Needs 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Supporting child in reception with ASD (Autism) and challenging behaviour

ASAP start until July 2026 minimum - Potential to continue in September

£95 - £155 per day dependent on experience/training and weekly pay

In the heart of Pimlico, Westminster, this small, one-form entry primary school is seeking an experienced and passionate Teaching Assistant to join their supportive, hard-working team.

The school is in an excellent location, just a short walk from Pimlico station and Victoria station. They pride themselves on diversity and inclusivity, fostering a welcoming and respectful environment for pupils and staff alike.

The team is highly collaborative and supportive. The school offers regular staff training, professional development sessions, and SLT check-ins, and actively welcomes feedback. Staff are encouraged to be creative and are given opportunities to lead or develop their own clubs and initiatives.

The role:

The Headteacher is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work closely alongside the Reception teacher and team, providing 1:1 support for a child with mild Autism and helping to manage some challenging behaviour.

You will support the child both in and out of the classroom, assisting with their learning, emotional regulation, and engagement in activities, while also ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the child and the wider class.

Requirements:

  • Must have at least 6 months experience supporting children or young people with Autism
  • Have previous experience or knowledge of the UK curriculum and some UK based experience
  • Be able to use de-escalation techniques and remain calm in tricky situations
  • Have a clear understanding of safeguarding
  • Have a passion and real desire to support children with special education needs in order to develop their education

Desirable:

  • Experience using Makaton or PECs
  • Team Teach training or manual handling experience
  • A degree within education or special education
